Twelve-month MBTA transit passes

Transit Program

The City of Somerville partnered with the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) to administer a free transit pass program for low-income households across the city. Recipients could use their pass to ride for free on the MBTA through September 30th, 2024.

Anyone who was enrolled in a benefit program such as SNAP, MassHealth (or other public benefit program) or earns up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Line, and did not qualify for an existing reduced-fare pass, was eligible to receive a pass through this program.

How do I apply?

As of August 20th, 2024, applications are no longer being accepted for the transit pass program.

How can you receive and use the pass?

If you submitted an application before August 20th, 2024, HAP staff will review your application and eligibility. Passes will be distributed through August 31st, 2024. If determined eligible, you’ll receive a pass and can use it for free MBTA rides until September 30, 2024.
